When you’re in love and thinking of marriage, you start to look at those around you. The successes, the failures, the one’s you thought would never make it but are still going strong, or the one’s for sure you thought would live happily ever after – but sadly – are now divorced. You can’t help but to think your marriage will last – especially when you’re in love. But you also wonder, what is it that make some last “till death do you part”, while others, it’s just not meant to be. If you’re curious enough, you start to ask those close to you. Your friends, family, even colleagues can be a source of sound marriage advice.

“My last divorce was in ’68. What made it come to a head was a promise. See, I had promised her that the next year I wouldn’t work as much. But then I got in trouble with the IRS and I had to continue working just as much to pay the government. So she said I lied, which is something I never did. I tried to explain it to her, that I was forced to do what I had to do by circumstances. But of course she’s tellin’ me, “You promised!””
